An unified acceptance ceremony was held in Kazakhstan on December 11th, with all together 18 industrial projects inspected and accepted by President Nazarbayev in person by live video. NFC’s two contracting projects, Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) Plant Project and Bozshakol Copper Project in Pavlodar, were arranged to be the first and the last to report respectively.
At 15:00, standing in front of assembled on-site staff of UPNK and NFC, general manager of UPNK Aubakirov Nagashbek Kapparovich began to report to the President and the national acceptance panel. The project was concluded as being in compliance with engineering construction procedure, entity qualified and design requirements satisfied. The President then approved the project to be accepted by national acceptance criteria. NFC vice-president Qin Junman attended the ceremony and delivered speech by invitation. Attaching great importance to the national acceptance, NFC managing team and project staff organized series of coordination meetings with designers, equipment suppliers and constructors. With joint efforts, obstacles like winterization, material shortage and visa difficulty were successfully overcome by taking measures such as multi-sourcing, skilled labor localization, equipping heaters and sheds.
Later afternoon at the site of sulphide concentrator of Bozshakol copper project, feeding system was started up witnessed by the President (video live), governor of Pavlodar, president of KAZ Minerals and NFC representatives, marking the beginning of commissioning and the readiness for handover. The project adopts EU and US standards on design and management, and received Altyn Sapa Award (national award for the best industrial projects) from the President at the ceremony. With 25mt/a ore processing capacity and the world’s largest SAG mills and ball mills, Bozshakol project easily becomes the largest world-class mining project in Kazakhstan and is expected to double KAZ Minerals’ copper production capacity after completion.
